Cleaning Procedure
Clean-Up Procedure
Cleaning up properly helps prevent health risks like Silicosis, keeps Studio costs manageable, and allows Gabrielle to focus on essential tasks like kiln loading and emails rather than post session clean up.
Please be mindful of water use throughout your clean up.
Do not rinse clay directly down the drain.
General Guidelines
-
Run water only at a light drizzle into the bucket in the sink if the bucket is empty
-
If the bucket is half full, do not run water. Use the water already in the bucket
-
Do not clean tools or splash pans at the sink. This creates lineups and unnecessary water use
-
To wash hands:
-
First use the water in the bucket to remove clay debris
-
Then wash with soap and clean water outside of the bucket
Wheel
-
Before cleaning, wipe your hands, tools, and wheel directly into your throwing bowl
-
No extra bowls of water for clean up
-
Use your throwing water to clean your wheel
-
If still streaky, refresh your sponge using water already in the bucket in the sink for a final wipe
-
Streaky is ok. No chunks
-
It is optional to clean tools and splash pans using the water already in the bucket
-
If you choose to do this, you must clean up early to avoid creating a lineup
Table
-
Ensure the surface is free of chunks or crusty clay. Streaky is ok
-
Avoid vigorous scraping or scrubbing, as this damages the wood and cannot be replaced
Floor
-
Sweep up any clay bits or crusties around your shelf area, table, and or wheel
-
Sweeping is mandatory if you trimmed or were handbuilding
-
Check the mop water
-
If it is milky, change it before use
-
Mop around your table area (all users)
-
If you used a wheel:
-
Mop from the wall to your table and across the full spray zone (approximately 10 ft)
-
Do a walk through of the areas you walked
-
Your path to the sink must be checked and mopped if there are drips or clay splatter
Extra Clean Up (1 task mandatory per person)
-
Mop an additional area
-
Front entrance
-
Area in front of glazed item shelf
-
Center of the room
-
Back drop in area
-
Between member shelves
-
Wipe down the sink
-
Tray, backsplash, and handles
-
Sweep walkways
-
Between member shelves
-
Back hallway
Final Note
If you are the last person to use the mop, it is your responsibility to change the water. Please pour it through the sieve in the sink and refill using the green hose.
