Residency Program
"Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean." – Ryunosuke Satoro
Community Clay offers a Residency program to post-graduates or the equivalent training well versed in the ceramic medium. The Residency aims to allow artists to work independently on a body of work, while simultaneously giving back to the Community.
The program runs from one to 12 weeks, depending on the scope of the intended project.
Participants will receive 24/7 access to a semi private area in the studio, and access to the entire studio based on scheduling availability. We are equipped with two Skutt Kilns, a Glaze Lab, Slab Roller, Extruder, Spray Booth, and Shimpo Whispers. We have a transitional Mold Making // Slip Casting area. For [up to] every 4 weeks of residency, participants will have access to 1 firing, and expected to complete 20 hours of Volunteering (teaching workshops, courses and/or tech hours.) Additional hours with compensation may be provided if necessary. Clay, tools and materials not included.
Nestled in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, our great backyard is a source of inspiration for many. We are nestled firmly in the middle of the city. Located 4 minutes by driving from the Downtown core, 8 minute walk to multiple Sky Train Stations. 30 minutes by car from the North Shore, and 1.5 hours from Whistler. Resort // cross country // back country skiing & snowboarding; snowshoeing, & hiking, front and back country camping; mountain biking; kayaking, sailing paddle boarding and other water sports are just some of the local extracurricular activities you may explore during your residency.
