Handbuilding Class: Before there was a wheel, pottery still existed. Handbuilding is the oldest form of ceramics. Crafting sculptures and vessels by hand, this course goes over basic skills working with clay. Want to take it to the next level? Classes are mixed level which allows you to develop your skills. Upon request you will be taught how to use the Slab Roller and Extruder! Take your wheel throwing to the next level with essential material understanding established in this Handbuilding course. 

Information will be provided in the Welcome email, which will be sent a few days before the Class start date. Some tools may be available at the studio on a first come first serve basis, but Students are required to purchase a tool kit from us or bring their own if Students wish to attend Drop In's during your Course. Clay & firing of work included- if you have a lot of work, or your items are bigger there may be additional firing fees (at cost.) Glazing Workshop is included, and may be booked after the Course is over.

Once you take a Course with us, you are able to attend into Drop In's (fee not included in the course) after attending two classes of the Course. If you wish to continue attending Drop In's after the Course is over, a Membership is required. If you are currently enrolled in a Course a Membership is not needed to attend Drop In's, fees applicable.

Please note classes are non-refundable. We will try our best to re-sell your spot in the class if you contact us at least 5 business days prior to class starting. If we're able to fill the spot, we will refund you, minus a $50 administration fee. You may transfer your spot to a friend of relevant experience at no cost, please email us to inform us of this prior to the Class start.

Please ensure you can make all sessions in the course. We do not guarantee that you'll be able to make up any missed classes.

The chef's plate of this collection features an unglazed rim to showcase culinary explorations. 

This item is made with recycled clay, and customized with a speckle added! The amount of speckles vary per batch. The Quartz, Rose Quartz, and Granite are a rich & creamy satin matte, and the Jade is brilliantly glossy. As always, I recommend hand washing and drying, however -upon your own discretion- these items may be placed in the dishwasher with care.

Non-Members, clay dispensed within 1-2 business of placing the order -Tuesday-Friday. You will receive an email when your items are ready for pick up, so you may book an appointment.

Creative Instruction: Learn foundational handbuilding techniques from an experienced instructor.
Hands-On Exploration: Sculpt, shape, and personalize your clay creations—no wheel required.
Finished Creations: Each couple can keep up to four pieces (two per person) totaling 1lb of clay. Your work will be trimmed, glazed, and professionally fired by the Community Clay team. Ready for pickup in approximately 8 weeks. (Additional/larger items may be kept for an extra fee.)

Workshop Details

One Ticket = Two People: Come with a partner, friend, or loved one—this workshop is designed for two.
Duration: 3 hours; you're welcome to arrive up to 30 minutes early to settle in and socialize. The final 30 minutes are for cleanup, glaze colour selection, and goodbyes.
Age: 16+ unless otherwise noted.
Accessibility: Our Vancouver pottery studio is wheelchair accessible. Please email us ahead of time with any specific needs so we can make your evening as welcoming as possible.
Location & Parking: Community Clay is located at 201 West 6th Ave, Vancouver with metered street parking right outside. Please plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early; late entry is not permitted.

What to Expect

• A cozy, social atmosphere perfect for couples, friends, or new experiences
• Step-by-step guidance and open-ended clay play—your creativity sets the tone
• Opportunities to add on upgrades, like a custom planter kit (additional clay + plant included)

Important Notes

• While we do our best to ensure all creations survive the kiln, pottery is a process—and breakage can happen.
• Essential oils may be diffused in the studio, and there may be dogs on-site. Let us know about any allergies or sensitivities in advance.

Tickets & Policies

• One ticket covers two people—ideal for a date night or shared creative experience.
• Tickets are non-refundable. We are unable to provide refunds for missed sessions or late arrivals.
• If you can’t make it, email us at least 15 business days in advance to reschedule.
• You may transfer your ticket to a friend—just have them check in under your name.
• Registering multiple couples? Add the number of tickets you need to your cart. If the cart resets to a smaller number, that’s how many spots are left for that session.
